Warburgia ugandensis (CE), also known as Ugandan greenheart or simply greenheart tree, is a species of evergreen tree native to East Africa.

The wood is resistant to insect attack and very strong. It was commonly used for the yoke pole of ox-wagons, the Disselboom. Extracts of Warburgia Ugandensis (CE) e.g. its bark, leaves have been reported to show some antimalarial, antifungal, and antibacterial properties in vitro or in animal models. The species is listed as Critically Endangered (CE) on the IUCN Red List. This indicates that the species faces an extremely high risk of extinction in the wild.

At Wamzedu Botanical Garden (SHG) we have taken urgent conservation actions such as nursery tree preparation, easiest ways of propagation from seeds so as to ensure the survival of Warburgia ugandensis (CE) in its natural habitat. So far, we have a tree nursery bed of 300 (Three hundred) seedlings so as to ensure they are protected and not to be extinct due to human invasion.
Uses
- Bark:
The dried bark is commonly used as a remedy for stomach-ache, constipation, toothache, cough, fever, muscle pains, weak joints, general body pains and stomach worm
The inner bark is reddish and bitter and it is used in the treatment of variety of conditions including the common cold. - Leaves / Roots: The roots or leaves can be boiled in water and the decoction drunk to treat Malaria.
