Coffea fadenii, also known as Mufindi coffee

Coffea fadenii, also known as Mufindi coffee is a species of flowering plant in the coffee and madder family Rubiaceae. It's a tree native to the wet tropical biome, primarily found in Kenya (Teita Hills) and Tanzania (East Africa).

Coffea Fadenii (EN)

At Wamzedu Botanical Garden (SHG) we carried out research to identify the endangered Coffea Fadenii (EN) tree specie which was grown and naturally grew in Taita Taveta. Due to human invasion the plant has been listed as Endangered (EN) on the IUCN Red List. This is due to threatened by habitat loss and degradation in its native range.

Wamzedu Botanical:

At Wamzedu Botanical Garden (SHG), we have a nursery of 3,000 (three thousand) Coffea Fadenii (EN) seedlings. Coffea Fadenii (EN) was traditionally used as medicine for treating fever, headache, and other ailments. It is being conserved through projects aimed at protecting its natural habitats in places like the Taita Hills.

Uses

• Bark: The bark extract is used to treat prostate problems, urinary infections, and other ailments. • Leaves: The leaves are used for treating fever, improving appetite, and various other purposes.
• Wood: Used for flooring, construction, and other applications. • Seeds: Contain oil that can be extracted and used.
